Community Living Alternative Services (CLAS) is committed to promoting the development and well being of individuals who have developmental disabilities, to strengthen positive relationships between individuals and their community, and to promote inclusive living. We achieve this by providing a variety of services through our compassionate and dedicated staff community.
We are hiring for 2 Full Time positions within established residential home settings in Cochrane, AB. The shifts are 2100-0900 (9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.) and the rotations are Thursday, Friday, Saturday, with alternating Wednesdays for both.
We are looking for compassionate, highly motivated, and committed people to join our Residential Support Program (RSP) team as a Residential Support Worker. Candidates need to be trained professionals and have established backgrounds in handling behaviours of concern, aggressive tendencies, and complicated histories in the individuals being supported. First hiring preference will be given to those with previous experience working in residential support programs.
As a Support Worker in our Residential Support Program (RSP), you will be responsible for the frontline, in-home, and community access provision of day-to-day support for individuals with cognitive issues, developmental disabilities, and behaviors of concern that may put themselves and others at risk. This is not an entry-level position.

To succeed as a Community Disability Support Worker (RSP) you will have the ability to:

  • Identify behaviors of concern and implement support plans
  • Assist individuals in the development of social skills and meaningful relationships, including providing community access supports
  • Be aware of and adhere to established policies, practices, and operational protocols
  • Use previous job experience in professional care settings to support individuals with multi-diagnoses and/or violent or self-harming tendencies
  • Provide support with personal care routines such as bathing, dressing, and grooming when needed

Formal Education: Post-secondary education in Social Work, Community Disability Studies, Psychology, etc. is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience providing supports to adults with dual or multiple diagnoses. Experience dealing with challenging and sometimes physical or violent behaviors is a must. Applicants to this position should not be new to the support care sector.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Proven ability to work with mental health concerns, self harming behaviors, and aggressive tendencies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to respond/remain calm in emotionally charged situations
  • Positive attitude
  • Solid computer, documentation, and verbal as well as written communication skills are needed
  • Must be able to identify issues, set priorities, and implement an appropriate plan of action
  • Good team work with smooth collaborations for daily tasks is a must
