Reports directly to the Chief Code Official
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible technical level work involving the enforcement of electrical codes relevant to construction and/or housing.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by formal and/or continuing education in relevant areas; five (5) years journey level experience in electrical and construction trades; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Possession of a Journeyman Electrician License. ICC Certification in at least one construction related discipline within one year of employment.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Thorough knowledge of relevant codes and practices related to the construction and housing codes. Considerable knowledge of architectural drawing and diagram principles and practices. Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, property owners, property occupants, and the general public.

Responsibilities

1) Conducts field inspections of structures relevant to the enforcement of the City’s building, electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and housing codes;
2) Determines when a certificate of occupancy should be issued;
3) Determines when a structure should be demolished;
4) Confers with contractors and property owners in the provision of information concerning corrections necessary to meet code standards;
5) Assists the Chief Code Official in reviewing new construction and remodeling plans to assure compliance with relevant codes;
6) Issues stop work orders, warning citations, and violation citations for un-permitted work or when corrections are not made in accordance with code standards;
7) Testifies in Magistrate Court and Municipal Court as necessary;
8) Maintains a variety of records and prepares a variety of reports; and
9) Performs other related duties as assigned.
