Coding - Medical Records Coder Basic Purpose of the Job Under general supervision and according to established procedures, coders will gather information from the hospital EHR system to abstract into coding software for reimbursement of hospital claims. Coordinates daily workflow based on the needs of the department as assigned by Management. Minimum Education Graduation from high school or successful completion of a General Equivalent Diploma (GED) test or equivalent. Preferred associate’s degree or equivalent in Health Information Management (with course work in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, disease processes, ICD‑10‑CM coding and prospective payment). Minimum Work Experience Medical records coding experience preferred. Previous experience in medical records, billing and/or hospital or clinic experience a plus. Required Licenses / Certifications Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Current member in good standing with AAPC or AHIMA. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of the principles of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCs Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and disease processes. Knowledge of computer use Knowledge of clinical encoders and groupers. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
