Description Job Summary: The primary function of the Collection Clerk is to make outbound calls as well as receive inbound calls from patients to resolve outstanding balances or issues, secure payment arrangements on balances owed to the hospital or clinics, resolve patient disputes, and review accounts and make recommendations for external agency placement. Duties/Responsibilities: · Responsible for managing self-pay aging collections (including co-pays and deductibles) · Optimize company revenue opportunities through patient collection efforts · Review patient statement cycle and batch patient statements daily · Process patient credit card payments · Responsible for pursuing company and team goals · Recommend bad debt write offs for approval after exhausting appropriate collection efforts · Share knowledge amongst peers and proactively suggest process improvements to supervisor · Duties and special projects will be assigned Job Competencies: · Excellent Customer Service and Communication · Strong Attention to Detail · Clerical Skills · Must be detail-oriented multitasker who works well under pressure Requirements Required Skills/Abilities: · Comprehensive understanding of patient benefits, insurance carrier explanation of benefits and ability to professionally and respectfully explain such to patient · Strong exhibited performance in cash collections and professionally overcoming objections · Persuasive, energetic and consistently professional/respectful in all communications · Excellent verbal and written communication skills, professionalism in all internal and external communications a must · Strong negotiation and persuasion skills · Excellent judgement · Strong analytical and decision-making skills · Time management ability · Ability to work independently and as part of a team · Works closely with the AR Clerk · Ensure accurate write-off applied to patient accounts Education/Licensure Requirements · High School graduate or equivalent · Coding and Billing, not required Experience Requirements: · 1-3 years medical collections preferred Physical Requirements: · Cannot have physical limitations that would prevent long periods of sitting · Must be able to lift 10 pounds in weight
