Description Job Type Full-time Description: Ensures that the library’s collections and resources meet the needs of the community. Responsible for selection, merchandising and deselection of materials in assigned collections across a variety of formats and audiences. Fulfills patrons requests and performs routine collection maintenance. Full-time position: Non-exempt position, 37.5 hours per week Hourly Wage Range: $27.61 - $42.66, with a starting hourly wage of $27.61 Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm except for one evening shift per week (either 11am-7pm, 12-8pm, or 1-9pm). Evening shift days are Wednesday or Thursday. Selects and evaluates materials for assigned collections and resources across a variety of formats and audiences, including print, AV, digital and online databases. 2. Responds to patron purchase requests and ensures patron requests are fulfilled through purchases or interlibrary loan. 3. Deselects and evaluates materials to be withdrawn from the collections. Coordinates with department staff on the process of withdrawing materials leaving the department. 4. Monitors expenditures and encumbrances for assigned fund lines. Ensures monthly and annual spending goals are achieved. 5. Collaborates with Acquisitions and Cataloging staff to facilitate the accurate and timely ordering and cataloging of materials for assigned collections. 6. Performs routine collection maintenance. Reviews lost, missing and damaged materials and makes decisions on repurchasing replacement copies as needed. 7. Acts as a liaison to public services departments, receiving input and title suggestions. Communicates changes in the collection and provides updates to other departments. Serves as a point person for collection questions and works to resolve issues. 8. Facilitates merchandising and material displays throughout the library building and online. Works with staff to market the collections physically and digitally. 9. Provides backup coverage for other collections as needed and assigned by the Collection Services Manager. 10. Provides backup coverage for interlibrary loan services as needed and assigned by the Collection Services Manager. 11. Makes recommendations for collection size, development of new collections and shelving allocations to the Collection Services Manager. Coordinates the shifting of collections as needed. 12 Analyzes collection data and makes recommendations to the Collection Services Manager. Prepares monthly reports of activity. Provides statistical reports on collection activity monthly, annually, and as needed. 13. Creates and maintains procedural documentation and instructions. 14. Participates in departmental initiatives and helps facilitate departmental projects and goals. 15. Serves as a collection representative on internal library committees and task forces, in the library consortium and other appropriate groups. 16. Participates in professional development activities relating to areas of responsibility. Keeps informed of current information and trends. 17. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Education: Expertise acquired through completion of a MLS program from an ALA accredited library school with an emphasis in collection management is required. Experience: Minimum of one year of collection development and selection experience in a comparable business, organization or library is required. Public library experience is highly desirable. Skills & Knowledge: Office & Library Knowledge of selection and collection management practices. Knowledge of popular culture, books, movies and media. Knowledge of integrated library systems. Knowledge of library computer systems and processes. Knowledge of productivity suites. Ability to complete detailed work accurately and efficiently. Ability to type with speed and accuracy. Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform job duties. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to analyze and synthesize data and make informed decisions accordingly. Ability to adapt to and effectively implement change. Ability to exercise reasonable and independent judgment and discretion. Communication: Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Speaking skills in other languages, particularly Spanish, is a plus. Ability to stay calm and effective in difficult situations. Ability to empathize and relate to the needs of all patrons and staff. Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. Physical requirements include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability, excellent manual dexterity, ability to push a cart weighing 100 pounds, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently. Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical library environment. Full-time position. Some evening and weekend shifts are required.
