Description

Londonist DMC is a student accommodation agency with over 30 different locations across London, providing both short-term and long-term accommodation options. Each of our accommodations offer stylish and comfortable en-suite rooms, studios, and apartment rooms, and access to outstanding facilities, such as gyms, cinemas, social and study spaces, and 24/7 on-site security and maintenance teams.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Collection Agent to manage and oversee rent collections. The ideal candidate will ensure timely payments, manage outstanding debts, resolve billing issues and maintain professional relationships with students and guarantors while enforcing company policies.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+years’ experience of working on a debt collection.
  • Proven experience in collections, accounts receivable, or a similar role.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial matters with professionalism and discretion.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and property management software (preferred).
  • Understanding of debt collection regulations.
  • High level of attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in student accommodation or property management collections.
  • Multilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and track rent payments, ensuring timely collections from students.
  • Contact students via phone, email, and written correspondence regarding overdue payments.
  • Visit student residences to discuss outstanding payments and assess any issues preventing timely rent collection.
  • Work closely with students and guarantors to arrange payment plans and resolve financial disputes.
  • Maintain accurate records of all communications and transactions related to collections.
  • Coordinate with the property management and finance teams to escalate and resolve outstanding debts.
  • Issue reminders, notices, and legal proceedings when necessary, in line with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Assist students and guarantors in understanding their contracts and financial obligations.
  • Prepare and submit reports on collection status and outstanding accounts to management.
  • Suggest improvements in collection strategies to optimise recovery rates while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • Stay updated with relevant laws and regulations related to rent collection and tenant rights.
