ABOUT YOU

You are someone who brings both passion and professionalism to your work with museum collections. With a background in Museum Studies, Cultural Heritage, History, or a related discipline, you have a solid understanding of the principles and practices that underpin responsible collection care. You’ve had hands-on experience in a museum, gallery, or cultural institution and are confident in your ability to handle, store, and document objects in accordance with industry standards. Familiarity with collection management systems will be an advantage, as will an understanding of conservation protocols, digitisation processes, and exhibition preparation.
You will work collaboratively across a wide range of stakeholder groups, your communication skills will be exceptional and you will share your technical expertise, knowledge and experiences to cultivate an invigorated and vibrant cultural precinct for the Burnie community.

Responsibilities

The Burnie City Council is reimagining the delivery of its arts and cultural services to create a new community hub for the people of Burnie. This will be achieved through the creation of a redesigned single site arts centre incorporating gallery, museum and performing arts activities, known as ‘Burnie Arts’, with culture and creativity represented through the arts, history, performance and stories of contemporary life
As the Collections Officer, you will play a vital role in the oversight of our museum and gallery’s collections. You will be responsible for the documentation, preservation, storage, and movement of collection items, ensuring best practice standards in collection management. You will work closely with the Curator to support exhibitions, loans, research, and public engagement initiatives.
