The Taxation Division within Manitoba Finance is seeking a qualified candidate to join their team as a Collections Officer. The department is comprised of staff at various levels including Collections Officers, Complex Case Officers, Collections Clerk, Collections Supervisors and Collections Manager.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience with current collection and enforcement techniques, policies and practices.
  • Written communication skills with experience creating correspondence such as faxes, letters, memos, court documents and account reports.
  • Verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to tactfully relay sensitive information.
  • Experience with business accounting principles and the ability to analyze financial statements.
  • Experience applying and interpreting provincial or federal legislation, regulations and policies.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to make sound decisions based on judgement.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a multi-tasked team environment.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Desired:

  • Basic knowledge of Taxation Acts and collection related legislation.

Duties:
The Collections Officer is responsible for the collection, compliance and enforcement of tax arrears and the delinquent filing of tax returns under all the taxation statutes administered by the Taxation Division. The position also gathers information to obtain collection sources and to assess ability to pay.
