Description
Groot / Waste Connections has an immediate opening for a driven and detail‑oriented Collections Supervisor to join our team in Elk Grove Village, IL. This role is ideal for a leader who excels in customer resolution, accounts receivable oversight, and driving effective collection strategies while supporting overall office operations. Key Responsibilities: Collections Leadership Oversee all aspects of the collections function, including designing and executing collection strategies to reduce past‑due accounts and improve cash flow. Monitor aging reports, establish follow‑up schedules, and ensure timely recovery of outstanding balances. Coach, mentor, and evaluate staff responsible for customer accounts, billing inquiries, and payment resolution. Partner with billing and accounting teams to ensure accuracy, resolve discrepancies, and improve processes that impact A/R performance. Handle escalated collection issues with diplomacy and firmness while maintaining strong customer relationships. Customer Service & Team Management Supervise department personnel, including hiring, training, performance reviews, work allocation, and progressive discipline. Ensure team members deliver high-quality customer service aligned with Waste Connections standards. Provide guidance on complex customer issues related to service, billing, and account status. Administrative & Operational Support Manage daily administrative operations of the office, establishing priorities and ensuring smooth workflows. Provide support to the District Manager through reporting, project management, day‑to‑day office coordination, and problem resolution. Assist in developing and implementing improved reporting and administrative procedures. Program & Process Coordination Coordinate department programs, workshops, training sessions, travel, and special projects. Promote adherence to Waste Connections’ standard operating procedures, with a focus on safety, accuracy, and efficiency. Become proficient in proprietary operational and financial systems. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Bachelor’s Degree preferred; equivalent experience considered. Minimum 3 years of management experience, ideally in collections, accounts receivable, or a call center environment. Strong knowledge of basic accounting and collections practices. Proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and develop staff while prioritizing and managing workloads. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills. Effective written and verbal communication abilities. Experience building cooperative working relationships and fostering a team‑focused environment. Ability to gather data, track KPIs, compile reports, and recommend improvements to collection and customer service processes. Familiarity with inventory control, purchasing processes, and office operations is a plus. Responsibilities
The Collections Supervisor will oversee all collections functions, designing and executing strategies to reduce past-due accounts and improve cash flow while coaching staff on account resolution. This role also involves supervising department personnel, managing daily administrative office operations, and supporting the District Manager with reporting and coordination.
