KNOWLEGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with an emphasis on curriculum development, instruction, instructional leadership, career development, or program evaluation.
  • Master’s degree in a related area is preferred.
  • Minimum five years combined teaching, career development, and/or educational consulting experience.
  • Michigan teacher’s/counselor’s certificate is preferred.
  • Experience in school-based counseling within an educational setting is preferred, with a focus on the secondary school level being most desirable.
  • Demonstrated depth in understanding of effective College and Career Readiness supports in comprehensive school settings.
  • Demonstrated abilities to represent Kent ISD professionally, responsibly, and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on a high-performing team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, resourcefulness, and flexibility in program development to meet the needs of stakeholders.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, social media, and data management.

Responsibilities

BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

In collaboration with the Director of Career and Technical Education, the College & Career Readiness Consultant will play a key role in supporting Kent ISD and local school districts by developing and implementing comprehensive College and Career Readiness programs and supports. Working in collaboration with K-12 educators, post-secondary partners, businesses, and community partners, this position bridges the gap between educational institutions and community stakeholders to ensure students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, experiences, and opportunities necessary for future College and Career Readiness success. The consultant will develop, lead, and support initiatives that promote career exploration, post-secondary planning, and workforce readiness, while also providing professional development, curricular support, and strategic guidance aligned with Kent ISD, state, and regional goals.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as liaison with local school districts and coordinate the systematic implementation of College and Career Readiness best practices and programming, in collaboration with district staff.
  • Act as liaison with college partners and post-secondary training programs to coordinate the systematic implementation of College and Career Readiness programming and supports, as well as direct and articulated college credit opportunities.
  • Collaborate with school counseling staff, teachers, and administrators to effectively communicate and market available opportunities.
  • Develop and execute curricular content that supports industry-related K-12 career readiness for constituent districts and regional programs.
  • Develop and execute professional development related to K-12 College and Career Readiness programming and supports on a local, district, or regional level, tailored to county or district needs.
  • Consult and collaborate with personnel of other Kent ISD departments on educational projects to promote the inclusion of learning goals related to College and Career Readiness (CareerPrep 2030, Career and Technical Education, and the Michigan Career Development Model).
  • Collect, interpret, and communicate data on the development of College and Career Readiness levels in Kent County’s K-12 student populations, in connection with the Michigan Career Development Model.
  • Collect and develop resources to support the career planning process for K-12 students, including the implementation of Educational Development Plans (EDPs).
  • Represent Kent ISD College and Career Readiness at workshops, conferences, and meetings to provide information about available programs/services and to network around best practices related to career exploration and career development.
  • Help raise awareness and promote the enrollment of students in Career Pathways’ programs across the county, including systems development to remove awareness and access barriers for students.
  • Help raise awareness and promote the development of Career Pathways in K-12 educational programs across the county.
  • Accepts the responsibility for purchasing, inventory, and budget control, as needed.
  • Market College and Career Readiness services to local school districts’ teams and other community stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of CTE.
