Job Title: Hospitality Technician
Department: Hospitality / Culinary / Events
Reports To: Program Manager or Department Head

POSITION SUMMARY

The Hospitality Technician provides technical, operational, and administrative support to the college’s hospitality programs. This role ensures the smooth delivery of practical classes, events, and services in areas such as commercial kitchens, restaurants, bars, and function spaces. The technician supports teaching staff and students by maintaining equipment, setting up learning environments, and upholding health and safety standards.

SELECTION CRITERIA / REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate III or higher in Commercial Cookery, Hospitality, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated experience working in a commercial kitchen, hospitality venue, or training environment.
  • Sound knowledge of hospitality operations, food safety standards, and WHS requirements.
  • Ability to maintain and use hospitality equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and time management.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with a customer-focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively support multiple activities.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare, set up, and pack down for hospitality classes, practical exams, functions, and events.
  • Maintain, clean, and store hospitality equipment, utensils, and machinery in line with health and safety standards.
  • Support the ordering, receipt, storage, and inventory management of food, beverages, and supplies.
  • Assist with stock rotation, waste management, and sustainable practices.
  • Provide technical advice to staff and students on equipment use and care.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, workplace health and safety (WHS), and hygiene regulations.
  • Support the delivery of functions and events, including room setup, basic food and beverage service, and liaising with internal and external clients.
  • Undertake minor repairs and coordinate servicing of hospitality equipment.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as stock records, equipment logs, and requisitions.
