College Intern - Governor's Office of Appalachia The Governor's Office of Appalachia within the Ohio Department of Development is presently hiring for a College Intern who is interested in the Ohio Appalachian region, can work independently, maintain data, can manage several projects at once and can work collaboratively with team members and the community. What you’ll be doing: Research issues of importance to the Appalachian region and report to the Program Manager and Director of the Governor's Office of Appalachia. Interact with local, state, and federal government agencies for the purposes of project review, research and constituent case work. Gather, organize, and audit data, and enter information into various databases, while ensuring the validly and accuracy of data. Schedule appointments and arrange appearances for the Program Manager and Director as well as work with members of the Communications Office on talking points and summaries of major issues, and assist with speechwriting. Minimum Qualifications: Must be enrolled at an accredited college/university, with a focus in either Public/Business Administration, Urban Planning, Social Work, Communications or Political Science. Demonstrate understanding of, or familiarity with the Ohio Appalachian region preferred. Effective written and verbal communication skills with both internal staff and external clients. Ability to analyze data, including researching and organizing large amount of data into reports. Flexibility to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in using Microsoft products (e.g., Work, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
Responsibilities
The intern will research issues relevant to the Appalachian region and report findings to the Program Manager and Director. They will also interact with various government agencies and assist with data management and scheduling.
