QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must hold a Level 8 Degree, as recognised on the National Framework of Qualifications, in Agriculture Science or equivalent.
  • Relevant post graduate qualification.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Practical knowledge of agriculture/related areas.

  • Solid understanding and appreciation of the role of Agriculture in the Irish economy.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Familiarity with Teagasc Cost Control Planner and preparation and interpretation of farm accounts and business plans.
  • Familiarity with Teagasc software e.g. NMP Online, Pasture Base etc.
  • Good knowledge of Teagasc education system.
  • Understanding of QQI quality assurance procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver education and training programmes at Ballyhaise Agricultural College, including full-time, part time and apprenticeship courses.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality classes, lectures and practicals across a range of agricultural subject areas.
  • Coordinate and assess assigned modules or courses within Teagasc’s agricultural education framework.
  • Develop and review course content as part of the education team, in consultation with College management.
  • Use a variety of teaching methodologies, including group facilitation, blended learning, and practical demonstration.
  • Promote the College and its courses through participation in open days, school visits, careers events, and public engagement activities.
  • Liaise effectively with students, parents, stakeholders, industry bodies and relevant agencies to support student learning and progression.
  • Maintain accurate student records and results using Teagasc’s education management system (Quercus), and prepare files for QQI external verification.
  • Keep subject knowledge up to date and engage in relevant role-related training and professional development.
  • Support good governance and effective administration by complying with College and Teagasc procedures and policies.
  • Contribute to Teagasc’s Quality Customer Service standards through adherence to best practice protocols.
  • Ensure the health, safety and welfare of students during all learning activities, in line with the Teagasc Safety Statement.
  • Be available to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, where required.
  • Participate in the Performance Management and Development System (PMDS), including the preparation of a personal development plan.
  • Carry out other duties as may be assigned from time to time by College management.
