The Early Childhood Education and Care Department was established on July 1, 2020. The Department’s aim is to create a more cohesive, equitable, and effective early childhood system in New Mexico. That means coordinating a continuum of programs from prenatal to five and ensuring that families in every corner of the state can access the services they need.

Why does the job exist?
The Undergraduate College Communications Intern contributes to ECECD’s communication initiatives while acquiring real-world experience in a professional communications environment. This position offers valuable exposure to marketing, media relations, and digital communications offering professional development opportunities to expand their skills. Through this position, the individual will cultivate expertise in communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and collaboration, gaining practical knowledge that will be beneficial in their future career.
How does it get done?
This position will work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment. They will actively support multiple initiatives, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to assist where needed. Their duties may include content creation, campaign coordination, research, and administrative tasks, all of which will provide valuable hands-on experience in the field of strategic communication. Additionally, the individual may be assigned other duties that align with the department’s overall objectives. They will develop essential skills and build a strong foundation in communication strategies while making meaningful contributions to impact initiatives.

Minimum Qualification
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university OR completion of at least four (4) semesters (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university within the last two (2) years.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Pre-employment background investigation is required, and an offer is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required.
