Virginia Tech Honors provides students with transdisciplinary and experiential learning opportunities through immersive courses and studios that require them to collaborate on real-world problems with faculty alongside trans-sector nonprofit, industry, government, university, and community partners. This is a 9-month Collegiate Assistant Professor position (non-tenure-track multi-year faculty appointment), with opportunity for extended contracts and promotion. We seek a colleague who can closely collaborate in this small but growing unit around teaching, research, and service relevant to Honors College areas of focus. Current faculty have a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, and we encourage applicants from any discipline or field. This career path position will typically teach two courses per semester and will be responsible for conducting collaborative and independent research, including scholarship of teaching and learning and transdisciplinary research, along with college-level and other service.

  • Interest in developing approaches to scale and share pedagogies across the university and beyond
  • Commitment to pedagogical approaches that serve a wide range of student experiences
  • Demonstrated commitment to inter- or trans-disciplinary and collaborative research, and willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries to address complex societal challenges
  • An interest in teaching a range of course types and structures, such as collaboratively taught, introductory, active and experiential, project-based, and studio-based classes
  • Interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning and/or a strong desire to advance the field of Honors education

  • Disciplinary training in health and biomedical sciences
  • Demonstrated experience with collaborative teaching
  • Experience with student-centered pedagogies
