LATHOM COLONY SCHOOL is hiring!
Lathom Colony School, located in the County of Newell, and approximately 30 minutes outside of Brooks Alberta, is seeking applications to work as a full time Colony Educational Assistant, for the 2025/2025 School Year. A colony educational assistant is a unique position that has broader responsibility in the classroom and school and administrative duties.
In consultation with the colony principal and teacher, the colony EA will participate in designing lesson plans, and deliver those plans, design and deliver student learning activities, and managing the classroom environment for kindergarten to grade three students. The broader scope of this role will be most suited for a candidate that has experience and training in education, can work collaboratively and has initiative to work independently, is organized as well as flexible with challenges and changes that may come with the day.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • minimum 2 years working in an education setting
    postsecondary training in education or as an Educational Assistant will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities
  • plan and deliver instruction, based on student learning needs and special needs, to foster learning of appropriate knowledge and skills;
  • prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help;
  • support students in instruction as well as social and behavioral needs;
  • encourage positive interactions between students and between students and staff;
  • work closely and collaboratively with the Colony Teacher, Colony Administrator and German Teacher to identify students’ individual and collective learning needs;
  • provide a stimulating learning environment in which each student can experience growth and develop to their potential;
  • communicate student progress and meet with parents as required;
  • meet with other professionals to discuss individual student needs and progress;
  • attend meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • maintain a clean and tidy classroom and classroom materials; and,
  • participate with students, as required, in school activities such as outdoor sports.
