COMMERCIAL LAWYER

  • Annual Salary: £47,181.00 to £51,356
  • Location: Sheffield
  • Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
    Our client is seeking a dedicated Commercial Lawyer to contribute to the delivery of legal and statutory services supporting the Council’s corporate planning, performance, and strategy. This role is crucial in supporting continuous improvement in legal and statutory functions and driving excellence within the City Council.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Recognised legal qualification (Solicitor, Barrister, or FCILEX).
  • Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience.
  • Extensive technical knowledge in commercial, contract, procurement, and subsidy control law.
  • Excellent communication skills across all mediums.
  • Ability to assess, manage, and mitigate legal risk.
  • Ability to implement strategy and deliver change.
  • Proficient in legal case management systems and IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice, representation, and support on all aspects of commercial, contract, procurement, and subsidy control law.
  • Identify, interpret, and advise on risk issues in projects and procurements.
  • Lead or contribute to discussions and communications in commercial negotiations on behalf of the Council.
  • Advise on commercial implications of TUPE and pensions in service transfers.
  • Support the local authority in fulfilling statutory and strategic functions.
  • Draft legal documents including contracts, agreements, and instructions to counsel.
  • Provide legal support in defending judicial review proceedings and other legal processes.
  • Assist in preparing reports for committees, boards, and external agencies.
  • Represent and advise committees, boards, meetings, members, officers, and external bodies.
  • Mentor colleagues and team members to achieve best practice.
  • Prepare and deliver training as required.
  • Contribute to developing efficient and effective client/customer relationships.
  • Continuously improve the quality of legal services.
