Description

Harrison Pensa is currently recruiting for a permanent full time Law Clerk/Paralegal to join our commercial litigation and restructuring team. This department oversees matters pertaining to creditors’ rights and remedies with a significant focus on litigation work, enforcement of contractual rights, and assisting financial institutions with their commercial litigation needs.
We are currently seeking a candidate who is highly organized, detail-oriented and can work within a fast-paced environment.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE IDEALLY HAS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary Law Clerk or Paralegal Diploma or related discipline;
  • 2-5 years’ experience as a Law Clerk, Paralegal, or Legal Assistant;
  • Excellent organizational, attention to detail and time-management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast paced environment, adjusts to changing priorities, and multi-tasking skills;
  • Ability to work as a team player and independently;
  • Efficient self- starter and quick learner;
  • Courteous, client focused and professional attitude;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and Legal Industry Software.
  • Knowledge of the Automated Civil Litigation file management and document generation system would be an asset

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and monitor various files to ensure accurate legal documents are prepared within timelines set by the lawyer(s) or applicable court dates;
  • Draft court documents, notices, forbearance agreements, and related agreements pursuant to attorney’s request;
  • Working closely with lawyers and other team members to prepare possession motion material, including affidavit material, communicating with clients and an array of other professionals;
  • Perform administrative duties, including preparing/drafting correspondence, electronic and paper filing, entering dockets, preparation of accounts, photocopying, day to day scanning, faxing, arranging couriers, etc.;
  • Manage communication with process servers and court with status of court documents;
  • Daily correspondence with clients and attorneys providing updates or obtaining instructions;
  • Maintain the day to day schedule and operations for the lawyer(s) to whom they report including scheduling appointments, meetings and managing calendar;
  • Responsible for developing and preparing exhibits for various lawsuits;
  • Work on completion of Canada Small Business Financing Act claims on behalf of clients with direction and assistance from other team members;
  • Assist other lawyers and staff within the practice group as needed;
  • Other duties, as required by the department.
