W&H Alexander Civil Engineering Ltd is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our team to work on commercial management across our business and bring experience to the team. The Commercial Manager / Senior QS is required to ensure that all commercial aspects of our contracts are properly managed and controlled.
You will play a pivotal role in our projects, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective management of resources, materials, and finances. You will be a key part of our company and have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our continued success.
The role will include implementation of the commercial management processes and procedures, from tender to final account including involvement in estimating, the bid process, review of contract documentation, control and monitoring of change in contracts as well as the management of claims and variation accounts, cash flow awareness along with accurate preparation of accounts in terms of cost/revenues and individual project financial statements.
Applicants must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience and preferably with a main contractor.
The Role:
Commercial Management
· Delivery of commercial management services for all tendering and projects.
· Preparation of timely internal commercial reporting.
· Preparing monthly CVRs, including WIP control and project cash flow forecasts.
· Monitor project costs and expenditures to ensure projects are completed within budget.
· Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure effective cost control.
· Assist in the resolution of contractual and commercial issues.
· Preparation of valuations/payment applications with full supporting documentation in accordance with the contracts.
· Attendance at meetings.
· Support continuous improvement of cost and project control procedures alongside the directors and contracts manager.
Estimating and Tendering
· Lead and develop the procurement process, including negotiation with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
· Prepare and review tender documents and produce estimates and submission documents including PQQs.
· Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as required.
Contract Management
· Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts including purchase orders, monitoring and payment authorisation through to agreement of final accounts.
· Undertake the contract administration for minor works.
· Meet with our clients’ commercial representative to agree variations and valuations.
· Preparing, submitting, and agreeing interim valuations.
· Ensure final accounts are closed in a timely manner.
· Process contractual claims and all associated records.
QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING:
· Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying preferably or in a construction related discipline with commercial experience.
· Full driving license
· CSR/SafePass Card
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
· 10+ years’ experience including 5+ years Senior QS Experience.
· Civil engineering sector experience is an advantage.
· Commercially astute.
· Experience with developing forecasts.
· Strong understanding of construction costs, budgeting, and financial analysis.
· Excellent knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract, including FIDIC and NEC, and Standard Methods of Measurement.
· Good communication skills and ability to negotiate and persuade others.
· Experience in contract administration, tendering, procurement and cost management.
· Strong time management skills.
