Job Title: Commercial Manager, Construction
NOC: 70010 – Senior Project Manager, Construction
Wage: CAD $155,000
Location(s) of work: 20 Duke Street, Suite 201, Bedford, Nova Scotia, B4A 2Z5. May be required to travel to worksite locations across Nova Scotia.
Number of Positions: One (1)
Type of Position: Full-time (at least 40 hours a week)
Required Language Skills: English (spoken and written)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute forensic reviews of baseline and progress construction schedules encompassing timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Navigate and develop risk register and key contractual obligations from contract review to determine obligations, liabilities and highlight risks.
  • Develop contract management activities to ensure compliance with the Prime Contract.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain new and existing client, consultant, and trade relationships.
  • Actively pursue and obtain new projects for Bird that fit division marketing plan and business model.
  • Confirm that estimate/cost plan incorporates value for the owner, accommodates the client’s design intent and the targeted profitability.
  • Manage subcontracts and purchase orders including resolving contractual issues, administration, reviewing change entitlement, and other duties required to support the successful administration of subcontracts and purchase orders.
  • Conduct the negotiation and oversee the preparation and execution of the prime contract.
  • Train staff on the implementation of contract processes and procedures and contractual requirements/obligations.
  • Stay informed on critical project issues and ensure resolution to stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Assume the overall day to day commercial management responsibility for at least one Major Project within the region.
  • Required Skills:
  • 10+ years of active, relevant and applicable commercial management experience in the construction industry
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Track record of successful contract management.
  • Experience overseeing budgets and managing projects valued at over CAD $50M.

Required Education:

  • A degree or diploma in construction management is an asset.
