Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.  Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security. We currently have an opportunity for a Commercial Officer in Sydney to work on NCB projects.   What You’ll Do   This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including: * Manage program financial operations — update and review the DCE budget, complete accruals, conduct forecasting and oversee day‑to‑day financial activities including purchase orders and invoicing. * Develop and maintain commercial documentation — prepare high‑level frameworks such as the Financial Management Plan and ensure commercial records remain accurate and compliant. * Plan and deliver procurement activities — schedule, implement and manage procurements including scope notices, CCPs and work packages. * Oversee contracts and assurance processes — monitor contract performance, manage deliverables, support audits and cost reviews, and escalate issues where required. * Engage stakeholders and support program governance — participate in key meetings, maintain strong commercial relationships, manage risks and issues, and embed lessons learned across the program. What You’ll Bring * Strong financial management capability — skilled in budgeting, accruals, forecasting, financial reporting, purchase order management and invoice processing. * Commercial and procurement expertise — experience planning and managing procurements (Scope notices, CCPs, work packages) and developing high‑level commercial framework documentation. * Contract and assurance management skills — ability to oversee contract performance, manage deliverables, support audits, conduct cost reviews and escalate issues appropriately. * Stakeholder engagement and communication strength — capable of building productive relationships, presenting in workshops and ensuring alignment across commercial stakeholders. * Governance, compliance and risk management capability — understanding of commercial compliance requirements, ability to implement governance strategies and embed lessons learned across the program Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain an AGSVA Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth.
