COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE ASSISTANT/PARALEGAL

Emery Jamieson LLP is looking for a Commercial Real Estate Assistant/Paralegal to join our team! As one of Edmonton’s most well-established law firms, we pride ourselves on being highly specialized in several areas of law and providing exceptional service to our clients.
In this role you will deal with business transactions and commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financings and refinancings, leasing, purchase and sale agreements, due diligence and title matters, and client reporting.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Draft documentation and correspondence
  • Review and analyze applicable agreements, such as commitment letters and purchase and sale agreements
  • Prioritize and monitor the various components of all transactions
  • Conduct, document, review, analyze, verify, monitor, summarize and report on due diligence for transactions including title research, corporate and ancillary searches and off-title enquiries
  • Calculate, draft, and analyze statements of adjustments and other financial documentation and data
  • Handle the receipt and disbursal of funds for transactions and all related financial reporting requirements
  • Complete closings of transactions including scheduling closing, and expediting matters where necessary to meet deadlines
  • Problem solve with respect to transactional matters, including title and title issues
  • Prepare transactional closing documents
  • Transfer time and disbursements
  • Collaborate with other support staff as needed

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Commercial Real Estate within a law firm environment
  • Completion of a Legal Assistant Certificate/Diploma or equivalent work experience
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Professional communication skills with clients, lawyers, and other team members
  • Excellent multi-tasking abilities
  • Proven ability to manage a large workload volume, competing priorities and demands
  • Sound ability to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Strong ability to problem solve with minimal supervision
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Experience with SPIN II system
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and follow instructions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Dependable and reliable
  • Worldox knowledge is considered an asset
  • Proficient and accurate typing skills, including spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Excellent organizational and file management skills
  • Ability to work well independently and manage complex workloads with high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills interacting with clients by telephone and in person
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
