PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
The Commercial Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring goods and services essential to business operations, with a focus on optimizing cost, quality, and delivery terms. This role supports the company’s commercial activities by ensuring materials and services are consistently available on time while maintaining strong supplier relationships. The position requires close collaboration with the company’s executive staff, as well as coordination and interaction with all Purchasing Managers and Purchasers to achieve procurement objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES EXPECTED OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:
· Conduct strategic purchasing across various categories, seeking better deals and more profitable suppliers to improve margins and service levels.
· Develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures to ensure consistent, efficient, and compliant procurement practices.
· Negotiate with vendors to establish purchasing programs that deliver the best combination of price, quality, and service for stocked and special-order products.
· Maintain and execute purchasing programs for stock items on a daily and weekly basis, ensuring adequate stock levels at all branches while achieving target inventory turns for each product category as determined by management.
· Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all purchasing information, vendor negotiations, and pricing programs.
· Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment in a timely and accurate manner.
· Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying, selling, and distributing materials, equipment, and supplies; interview, hire, and oversee training of purchasing staff.
· Analyze market conditions and delivery systems to assess current and future material availability and proactively address supply risks.
· Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims, maintaining strong, professional supplier relationships.
· Arrange for the disposal of surplus or obsolete materials in compliance with company policy.
· Demonstrate initiative by identifying needs and taking proactive steps to ensure tasks and projects are completed effectively without being prompted.
