The Commis I Chef plays a vital role in preparing high-quality, consistent food items while delivering courteous, professional, and efficient service that aligns with the hotel’s operational standards. You will support the Chef de Partie (CDP) and Sous Chef in cooking duties and ensure that all kitchen stations remain clean, organized, and compliant with hygiene policies.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of food hygiene and safety practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and within a team.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and take direction.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high culinary standards.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines.
  • Maintain the highest standards of food quality and consistency in daily preparation.
  • Ensure mise en place is completed for your section and for banquets or buffets as required.
  • Assist in menu innovation, buffet presentation, and introducing new recipes or techniques.
  • Maintain proper sanitation, hygiene, and cleanliness of work areas, surfaces, and storage containers.
  • Accept, check, and store deliveries in line with food safety requirements.
  • Control stock levels, minimize wastage, and help manage food costs.
  • Monitor and maintain food logs, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Support CDP and Sous Chef in training, coaching, and motivating team members.
  • Communicate effectively with F&B service staff regarding specials and available menu items.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Test food items to ensure proper preparation, taste, and temperature.
  • Assist in chopping, portioning, and other food preparation tasks.
  • Participate in internal training sessions and apply learning to daily operations.
  • Follow scheduled cleaning duties and maintain a hygienic work environment at all times.
  • Remain flexible to assist other sections or departments during peak business periods.
  • Be prepared for internal section rotations every 2–3 months in line with management policy.
