This role is crucial in supporting the Senior Chefs to deliver exceptional dishes that exceed guest expectations, while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, quality, and consistency throughout kitchen operations. Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:
- Assist in the preparation and organization of ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping vegetables, portioning proteins, and other preparatory tasks as directed by Senior Chefs.
- Follow established recipes and preparation guidelines to ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and quality of food.
- Participate in the cooking of basic dishes, such as soups, sauces, salads, and other menu items, under the guidance of the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
- Maintain an organized and clean workspace, ensuring all utensils, tools, and equipment are in proper working condition.
- Adhere to hygiene, sanitation, and food safety regulations, including proper handling and storage of ingredients and food items.
- Assist with receiving, checking, and storing deliveries, ensuring the correct products are received and stored properly.
- Help maintain inventory levels for your designated section and communicate any stock shortages or needs to the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
- Assist in the preparation of mise en place, ensuring that all ingredients and components are ready for service.
- Participate in minimizing food waste by following proper portion control and stock rotation procedures.
- Ensure all food items are prepared according to standard recipes, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Assist with the cleaning and upkeep of kitchen equipment and tools, ensuring they are ready for use at all times.
- Work closely with other kitchen staff, including Commis 1, Commis 3, and the rest of the team, to ensure timely meal preparation.
- Attend training sessions and kitchen meetings to improve your culinary skills and knowledge.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach in taking on additional tasks and responsibilities to support kitchen operations.
- Monitor and maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen environment by following all health and safety guidelines.
- Ensure that perishable items are stored and labeled correctly to prevent spoilage.
- Prepare requisitions for supplies and food items for your section and assist with the proper handling of food deliveries
