Job Description As a Pastry Commis Chef, you will support the pastry team in delivering high-quality pastries and desserts across all dining outlets, including the Rose Lounge, Events, Bistrot, In-Room Dining, and the St James Bar. Working under the guidance of senior chefs, you will assist with preparation, production, and presentation, while learning and growing within a creative and professional kitchen environment. You will be expected to uphold the highest hygiene and safety standards while maintaining a clean and organised work area. This role is ideal for someone passionate about pastry, eager to develop their skills, and contribute to the overall success of the pastry section. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in the preparation and production of pastries, desserts, and baked goods as directed by senior chefs. Support with mise en place for daily service and special events. Maintain high standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation. Follow instructions precisely and contribute to the smooth running of the pastry section. Adhere strictly to hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety regulations, including COSHH protocols and company standards. Ensure all tools and work areas are clean and sanitised before, during, and after service. Assist with the organisation and restocking of ingredients and materials. Work collaboratively with the pastry team, showing initiative and willingness to learn. Maintain professional appearance, following uniform and grooming guidelines at all times. Embrace opportunities for training and development within the pastry kitchen. Qualifications A recognised culinary qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Professional Cookery or Patisserie). Basic knowledge of pastry techniques, baking methods, and dessert preparation. Understanding of food hygiene and safety standards (Level 2 Food Safety Certificate or equivalent). Ability to follow recipes and instructions with accuracy and attention to detail. Strong organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
