About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our kitchen team at Gartlan’s Bar in Kingscourt. You will be working directly alongside our Head Chef in a small, friendly, and fast-paced kitchen environment.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build their culinary skills, gain hands-on experience across food prep and service, and work within a supportive team.

Key Working Hours & Schedule

Service Hours: Food is served Thursday through Sunday from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
Shift Pattern: Shifts will cover prep before service, service windows, and kitchen setup/clean-down between and after meal services.
Weekend availability (Thursday to Sunday) is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Prep & Setup: Assist the Head Chef with daily prep work, dish assembly, and organizing ingredients ahead of service.
Service Execution: Cook and plate food orders accurately and efficiently during service hours (12–3 PM and 5–7 PM).
Kitchen Hygiene: Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety standards (HACCP compliance) at all times.
Stock & Storage: Ensure food items are stored, labelled, and rotated correctly (FIFO).
Cleaning: Assist with station teardown, dishwashing, and general kitchen clean-down after service.

Requirements & Qualifications

Previous experience in a kitchen or catering environment is preferred, but passionate candidates with formal culinary training or a strong work ethic will be considered.
Fundamental understanding of food safety and hygiene procedures.
Ability to work well under pressure in a tight-knit team environment.
Good communication skills and a strong eye for detail.
Must be punctual, reliable, and available to work weekends/evenings as scheduled.
