Key Responsibilities – Commis Cook Cruise Ship Duties & Food Preparation Assist in the daily preparation, cooking, and presentation of diverse hot and cold dishes for all onboard dining venues under supervision of senior culinary staff. Follow standard recipes, portion control guidelines, and cooking techniques to produce consistent, high-quality meals in accordance with company standards. Maintain organization and cleanliness of assigned work stations, galleys, and equipment following USPH, HACCP, and cruise line health regulations. Use kitchen tools, knives, and equipment safely, ensuring thorough cleaning, proper sanitization, and secure storage after each use. Assist with ingredient preparation, kitchen organization, inventory checks, storage rotation, and receiving deliveries as directed by team leaders. Coordinate with colleagues to adapt to menu changes, dietary requests, special events, and large-scale meal production schedules. Show respect for all team members, foster a supportive and inclusive workplace, and contribute to a positive, multicultural kitchen environment. Requirements – Cruise Ship Commis Cook: Entry-Level Culinary Skills Minimum 6 months of experience in a professional kitchen, food production facility, restaurant, or similar culinary setting; cruise or resort experience is a plus. Foundational cooking skills including knife handling, food preparation, basic hot and cold food production, and eagerness to learn more complex culinary techniques. Understanding of general food safety, sanitation, and ingredient handling, with readiness to diligently follow all operational procedures at sea. Dependable, flexible, and able to work efficiently within a fast-paced, multinational team onboard a cruise ship. Effective English communication skills to ensure safety and collaboration; additional languages are an asset but not required. Daily Tasks – Onboard Commis Cook: Culinary Prep, Cooking & Service Organize and set up work stations with necessary ingredients, utensils, machines, and protective gear for efficient kitchen operations. Prepare raw ingredients, chop vegetables, portion proteins, and execute other food prep tasks for breakfast, lunch, dinner buffets, fine dining, and crew meals. Assist with plating, garnishing, and serving a variety of menu items, following chef’s detailed instructions and presentation guidelines. Participate in regular cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen equipment, storage areas, and food preparation surfaces to maintain strict galley hygiene standards. Support monitoring of stock freshness, participate in inventory counts, and help ensure precise rotation and storage of all food items. Qualifications & Additional Details – Cruise Ship Commis Cook Opportunities Willingness to live and work onboard a cruise ship for 6–8 month contracts, adapting to changing shifts, time zones, and routine at sea. Must possess a valid passport and any required visas for international cruise ship assignments (such as a US C1/D visa where applicable).
