Description

COMMISSIONING ENGINEER

Join our team at East River Electric Power Cooperative! We are seeking an engineer who is enthusiastic about achieving results and can assist in testing and commissioning substation equipment, ensuring all operations proceed smoothly and meet established standards. In this role, you will work closely with our skilled substation technicians to enhance testing procedures, review outcomes, and identify opportunities to improve our energization process. Engineer level within the job family will be determined by qualifications and experience. On the job training will be provided!
At East River Electric Power Cooperative we’re dedicated to providing reliable and affordable wholesale power to our members across 40,000 square miles of service area. As a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative, we provide electricity to 24 rural electric distribution cooperatives and one municipally owned electric system serving eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota.   • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Some direct utility or general engineering experience is a plus but not required
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer, or the ability to obtain one within four years, is preferred (A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of PE registration.)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry standards (IEEE, RUS, NESC, NEC)
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others and develop positive working relationships
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products and computer technology
Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform the commissioning of substation protection, control, and power circuits.
  • Develop outage, energization, and commissioning plans.
  • Review relay settings, support asset management, and troubleshoot protection and control systems alongside experienced field crews.
  • Dive into design reviews, prepare specs, estimate costs, and play a role in equipment purchasing decisions.
  • Participate in project meetings, help improve department documentation, and stay current on industry standards and innovations.
  • Communicate technical info clearly-whether in reports, manuals, or casual conversations with your teammate
