Job Details Job Location: Cedar Rapids, IA 52401 Job Description: Electrical 3rd Party Commissioning Engineer – Mission Critical Ensuring Excellence in Mission Critical Facility Start-up and Operation Position Summary The Electrical 3rd Party Commissioning Engineer – Mission Critical is responsible for overseeing and validating the commissioning process of electrical systems within mission critical environments, such as data centers, hospitals, financial institutions, and other facilities where system reliability and uptime are paramount. This role acts as an independent authority, ensuring that all electrical installations meet industry standards, design specifications, and client requirements before handover. Key Responsibilities Review and assess electrical system designs, specifications, and installation drawings to verify compliance with project requirements and applicable codes. Develop and implement detailed commissioning plans, schedules, and test procedures for electrical systems including switchgear, UPS, generators, power distribution units (PDUs), and related infrastructure. Witness and document factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) of critical electrical equipment. Conduct on-site inspections and performance verification of installed systems, identifying deficiencies and recommending corrective actions. Coordinate and lead integrated systems testing, collaborating closely with owners, contractors, vendors, and other commissioning agents. Prepare comprehensive commissioning reports, including punch lists, test results, and final acceptance documentation. Ensure all work adheres to safety standards and best practices, championing a culture of safety on project sites. Facilitate training and knowledge transfer to operations and maintenance staff. Serve as an impartial technical advisor to clients, providing expertise throughout the project lifecycle from design review through post-occupancy support. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical commissioning, preferably in mission critical environments. Strong knowledge of electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEEE), commissioning standards (e.g., ASHRAE, LEED), and industry best practices. Relevant certifications (e.g., CxA, PE, LEED AP) are highly desirable. Proven track record in managing complex commissioning projects independently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency with commissioning software and documentation tools. Willingness to travel and work on-site as required.
