Based on a new and unique patented PEM electrolyser concept, Hystar is currently developing our next-generation PEM electrolyser to accelerate the deployment of large-scale green hydrogen production. Hystar is an innovative, fast growing, high-tech company, based at Høvik, just outside Oslo, Norway. We are currently operating a 1MW PEM electrolyser at the Kårstø gas processing plant in Norway, as well as delivering units in Finland and Poland later this year and you will be a key resource in these projects. Are you the next star in the Hystar constellation?
Job description
We are seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support the deployment of our PEM electrolyser systems. In this role, you will be responsible for commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting our systems in the field, supervising and managing necessary disciplines to ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and automation engineers, to deliver high-performance hydrogen production solutions.
You should expect to travel frequently and on short notice for fieldwork and customer support.. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, or related field) OR equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of industrial systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, automation, and process control.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with industrial automation, PLCs, and SCADA systems is a plus.
  • Full flexibility to travel frequently and on short notice for fieldwork and customer support.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with hydrogen production, electrolysers, or fuel cells.
  • Knowledge of gas handling, pressure systems, and safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, sensors, and control loops.
  • Certifications in electrical safety, commissioning, or automation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute commissioning activities for PEM electrolyser systems at customer sites.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with customers as Hystar’s primary representative onsite
  • Develop and follow commissioning plans, procedures, and test protocols.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control system issues that may arise during commissioning startup.
  • Conduct system validation, performance testing, and optimization.
  • Work with R&D and engineering teams to implement system improvements.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers.
  • Ensure compliance with local and site-specific safety standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Train operators and maintenance personnel on system operation and best practices.
  • Document commissioning activities, test results, and system performance.
    Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT).
