COMMISSIONING ENGINEER – LONDON AND THE SOUTH EAST

Regional role focus: London and the South East
Working Hours: Standard hours of 37.5 per week
UK Head Office: Dartford , Kent
Role Package: Base Salary + 10% Bonus + Car Allowance
Daily: Expected to travel and be based onto customer site when required - Travel from home to site is covered by Helvar
As part of our ongoing expansion, we are excited to announce an opportunity for a talented Commissioning Engineer to join our dynamic team of expert commissioning engineers at Helvar UK. Operating within our innovative Lighting Intelligence business unit, this role offers a chance to contribute to cutting-edge projects, provide exceptional technical support, and play a vital part in delivering intelligent lighting solutions across the UK.
As a member of the UK Operations Technical Team, this role requires close collaboration with our Sales Managers based in London and the Southeast of England, with occasional travel to other regions of the UK as needed.
The primary focus of the position is to oversee the Commissioning and Programming of Lighting Control Systems in the field. A key element of the role is establishing strong, early engagement with customers during the project execution phase, ensuring clear communication about timelines, key milestones, project completion, and handover expectations.
In addition, the role involves supporting the seamless integration of lighting control solutions by providing technical assistance, diagnosing issues, and troubleshooting common challenges faced by partners and customers. You will also play a vital role in assisting the Helvar UK Technical Operations Team in their daily responsibilities, ensuring efficient collaboration with stakeholders.
A crucial aspect of this position is equipping all parties with the necessary knowledge of Helvar’s solutions, fostering customer confidence and satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.

SOME SKILLS WE’D LIKE FROM YOU

  • A qualification in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics or similar) (desirable)
  • Ability to work in a team and interface with other departments to deliver maximum value for customers and the business.
  • Passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and value, internally and externally.
  • Experience of managing high customer expectations and delivering results under time pressure working to tight deadlines
  • Electrical or Electronic background
  • Advanced IT skills using Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Knowledge of lighting controls and/or AV equipment would be an advantage.
  • Hands-on: the role requires being able to wire test demos as well as troubleshoot issues in the field
  • Confident and effective communicator, ability to effectively present and influence individuals and groups at all levels
  • Flexible and agile, able to adapt your approach and methods to maximise results.
  • Spoken and written fluency in English; an additional European language is desirable but is not essential

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING AS A HELVAR COMMISSIONING TECHNICAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST



    • Delivering Exceptional Customer Experiences: Ensure all customer delivery experiences align with Helvar’s procedures for Project Execution and Handover phases, including the commissioning, programming, and maintenance of Helvar lighting control systems and products.

    • Building Strong Relationships: Establish and maintain effective communication channels with customers, promoting a proactive “CAN-DO ATTITUDE” while introducing Helvar’s processes, products, and software to add value to their business.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders at various levels of the sales and project processes, ensuring alignment and collaboration throughout.
    • Providing Technical Expertise: Offer on-site technical advice and support to all stakeholders, including project and service customers, addressing challenges and delivering solutions when necessary.
    • Project Execution and Handover: Engage in discussions regarding project execution, develop monitoring and control measures with customers, and ensure project close-out/handover is completed according to agreed-upon expectations.
    • Managing Project Phases: Oversee and manage project phases in line with Helvar’s Roles and Responsibilities, discussing deliverables for each stage and ensuring all actions align with customer agreements.
    • Tracking and Reporting: Monitor and report on all project and commissioning activities, addressing escalations, and proactively creating improvement plans to enhance the customer experience.
    • Driving Innovation and Feedback: Advocate for improvements in Helvar’s solutions and provide constructive feedback to relevant departments to support continuous improvement.
    • Supporting Operations: Provide technical assistance to the operations team and other business units, whether in the office or on-site with partners and customers, as required.
    • Root Cause Analysis: Conduct in-depth root cause analyses for technical issues, combining expertise with excellent customer service to deliver effective solutions that exceed customer expectations.
    • Geographic Coverage: Be responsible for supporting customers and projects across the UK, ensuring seamless communication and service delivery.
    • Confident Communication: Act as a confident and effective communicator, ensuring clarity and professionalism in all interactions with customers and internal teams.This role is integral to ensuring Helvar’s commitment to excellence and innovation, while fostering trust and delivering outstanding value to customers.
