Job Details Job Location: Cedar Rapids, IA 52401 Position Type: Full Time Job Description Mechanical 3rd Party Commissioning Engineer – Mission Critical Position Overview The Mechanical 3rd Party Commissioning Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the successful delivery of mission-critical facilities, such as data centers, hospitals, or other high-reliability environments. This position is responsible for overseeing and validating the commissioning process for all mechanical systems, acting as an independent third-party authority to ensure that all systems meet the design intent, operational requirements, and stringent industry standards. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the commissioning process for mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled water, heating, ventilation, and plumbing systems. Review and verify design documents, submittals, and equipment specifications for compliance and constructability. Develop and implement commissioning plans and detailed test procedures tailored to mission-critical environments. Coordinate with project stakeholders, including owners, contractors, design teams, and vendors, to facilitate efficient commissioning activities. Witness, document, and validate functional performance tests, ensuring all mechanical systems operate in accordance with project requirements. Identify and resolve commissioning issues, deficiencies, or non-conformance items; track corrective measures through completion. Prepare comprehensive commissioning reports, including punch lists, test results, and recommendations for system improvements. Ensure all commissioning activities adhere to applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations. Provide technical support and training to facility operations staff as needed. Maintain clear and accurate project documentation throughout the commissioning process. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline OR equivalent job experience, such as military service or hands-on commissioning experience in other commissioning programs (Cx), is required. Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical commissioning, preferably in mission-critical environments (e.g., data centers, healthcare, pharmaceutical). Strong understanding of mechanical system design, installation, testing, and operational principles. Familiarity with industry standards such as ASHRAE, NEBB, and/or ACG. Experience with building automation systems and integrated controls is a plus. Proficient in interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and control diagrams. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Willingness to travel and work onsite as project demands require.
