Description

Two CIMIC Group companies, UGL and CPB Contractors have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the 130km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project.
HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project which will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby in regional NSW that will significantly increase the capacity of the electricity network in Australia’s eastern states. HumeLink is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure projects, with about 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and a range of other new and upgraded infrastructure.
The HumeLink West scope of works, worth $1.4bn, includes delivery of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines spanning ~140kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai and a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join the HumeLink West team. The position is responsible for-

  • Preparing detailed commissioning procedures and schedules to ensure systems are tested and operational according to project requirements and safety standards.
  • Performing functional testing, troubleshooting, and validation of electrical, mechanical, and control systems to confirm compliance with design specifications.
  • Work closely with design engineers, construction teams, and project managers to address technical issues and ensure a seamless transition from construction to operation.
  • Verify that all equipment and systems meet industry regulations, safety guidelines, and client requirements, preparing documentation as necessary.
  • Support site teams during commissioning activities, deliver training to operations staff, and hand over fully operational systems to the client.
  • Provide HV switching support during energisation

ABOUT YOU

  • A degree/ Diploma in Engineering (electrical or related field) or a relevant qualification
  • Proven experience in commissioning Secondary systems and Primary equipment, particularly within utilities, energy or large sale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of relevant Australian standards, safety regulations, and compliance requirements for high-voltage and transmission systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently, with a strong attention to detail during testing and validation processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, provide technical reports, and liaise effectively with clients and stakeholders.
    The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card or equivalent) and undergo a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) prior to commencement.
