Description

As part of the MacTaggart Scott Engineering Department, the Commissioning Technician is a key member of the commissioning team and will require electrical and control system knowledge. Reporting directly to the Commissioning Manager, the primary purpose is to carry out a range of electrical, control & PLC based tasks for all MacTaggart Scott manufactured equipment. Tasks range from installation, supervision and commissioning to in-service support and fault finding. Operating worldwide, the Commissioning Technician must be capable of working within a high-pressure environment, using initiative and be able to carry out tasks in a professional manner, often at short notice.

REQUIREMENTS

  • The ability to provide effective technical communication, with a proven track record of internal and customer facing engagement.
  • A flair for learning, problem solving and a flexible approach to work patterns.
  • Comfortable engaging with clients.
  • Report writing and use of MS Office
  • Excellent knowledge of electrical circuits, components, control systems and PLCs.
  • Ability to work away from home, unaided and in high pressure environments.
  • Engineering experience and qualification, minimum level completed electrical apprenticeship and qualification (HNC, City & Guilds, Scotvec, etc.)
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and assist during new installation and refit projects.
  • Co-ordinate and supervise sub-contract personnel and teams.
  • Carry out commissioning and acceptance activities for new and refurbished equipment, in accordance with schedule and budget.
  • Assist with preparation of test procedures for Harbour Acceptance Tests (HAT) and Sea Acceptance Tests (SAT).
  • Liaise and manage equipment acceptance with customers.
  • Prepare and deliver effective training packages for safe operation and maintenance of installed equipment.
  • Carry out effective fault diagnosis and repair.
  • Conduct equipment surveys and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Prepare high quality technical reports and survey reports.
  • Assist with the preparation of risk assessments and method statements.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing activities, to ensure the progression and development of all those involved with the commissioning team.
  • Promote the company’s Health and Safety policies and ensure all activities are carried out in a safe and controlled environment.
  • Engage and work effectively with Test Engineers, providing technical support and, occasionally, in-person assistance for in-house test and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure company procedures are maintained and adhered to.
