Job Overview
About the BMA
The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK. We represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students.
Join the BMA at a crucial time for doctors and the NHS and be part of a team working for better pay and conditions for the profession.
About the role
We are looking for a highly skilled Committee Executive Officer who will have responsibility for the effective functioning of a busy branch of practice committee, the Welsh Resident Doctor Committee, on a fixed term basis until end of October 2025.
The successful candidate will join us at an important time for resident doctors and will play a key role in contributing to the delivery of the committee’s policy objectives and workplan including working with others to support ongoing contract negotiations and to progress the campaign for pay restoration.
You must be highly organised and able to manage a busy workload, often with competing priorities. Sound written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, and an eye for detail are essential.
Previous experience of working with committees, or in a membership-based organisation, would be an advantage.

In your personal summary, please outline your experience of working in the following areas:

  • Within a health policy environment and the level of understanding you have of the current issues facing the delivery of health care;
  • Taking a strategic overview of complex or sensitive issues and reporting these in a written format (e.g. to colleagues and/or senior managers);
  • Organising senior level meetings or events, setting agendas, capturing minutes and following up agreed action points;
  • Managing and prioritising work appropriately and working in a fast-paced environment;
  • Working as part of a team
