Primary objective
To develop, manage and implement the Northern Territory Government’s communications and stakeholder engagement strategy
for the Infrastructure NT division, with an emphasis on coordinating and managing consultation and communications activities and
relationships for major infrastructure planning and delivery.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop, manage, and implement strategic communications and engagement strategies, action plans and progress reports to
support the development of major infrastructure projects.
2. Provide strategic communications, public relations and engagement advice to Departmental officers, Executives and the
Minister’s Office, relevant working groups, and key stakeholders.
3. Identify, record, manage and resolve stakeholder and community affairs and concerns for the projects.
4. Lead and manage public relations, media, and communication issues, while representing the Government and department in
consultation and communication activities.
5. Interface with the department’s industry experts, engineering, and specialised teams to collate, prepare, refine, and culturally
appropriate communication and engagement materials.
6. Coordinate and effectively manage proactive consultation with key stakeholders including other Government departments,
peak bodies, industry representatives, environmental groups, Traditional Owners, and the Commonwealth Government.
7. Preparedness to work flexible hours and ensure “on-call” availability is provided outside of regular business hours.
8. Undertake administrative duties including preparing plans, letters, reports, briefs, presentations, speeches, and memorandums.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. High-level oral and written communications, negotiation, relationship management and collaboration skills.
2. High-level experience providing strategic advice to management and other staff about complex communications, engagement,
and community relations issues.
3. Proven experience in developing and delivering multifaceted communications and engagement strategies, including knowledge
and experience using current trends and tactics.
4. Proven high-level experience engaging and communicating with various stakeholder groups on sensitive and complex projects
including local communities and Aboriginal and other community stakeholders.
5. Proven ability to think creatively and conceptualise communications solutions to address organisational needs, demonstrating
a high-level ability to identify stakeholders and analyse their specific needs.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in the preparation of high-level correspondence and material including stakeholder, communication
and engagement materials, and documents for publication.
7. Proven experience in delivering diverse outcomes to meet client and stakeholder expectations.
8. High-level knowledge of the economic, political, and social issues impacting the Government and the Northern Territory.
Desirable
1. Relevant qualification in marketing, communications, or a related discipline.
2. Relevant experience in large scale major projects, water, electricity, gas, or other essential infrastructure and/or land tenure
and acquisition experience
