The Communications Advisor, working within the Digital Excellence in Health- Strategy Management and Reporting Team, is responsible for developing and implementing multi-faceted communications plans and outreach activities to broaden awareness for key strategic and operational digital and virtual priorities and objectives. The communications Advisor will be adept at creating visually appealing, informative, and engaging project artifacts, briefings, educational materials and presentations which enable the knowledge translation and awareness of the agency’s digital strategies, products and services. To enable success, it is critical that partners and stakeholders understand the value digital work brings for patients, providers, and the system and the high-level steps needed to bring plans to fruition. Working closely with external and internal partners, the position also contributes to a better understanding of health care policy and delivery contexts to ensure the value, the relevance and utility of our communications products and vehicles.

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Develop, implement and monitor/measure integrated communications plans and content development strategies that support and align with the overall Ontario Health mandate, strategic plan and operational objectives.
  • Create high-quality content and ensure key deliverables, targeting a variety of shared, owned and earned communications channels and vehicles, are met and measured, including the writing and editing of news releases, presentation content – ensuring a brand appropriate, consistent and strategic tone and voice.
  • Support the strategy management and reporting team is describing highly technical and complex digital/virtual products and services in a manner that in non-technical, broadly accessible and understood by funders, providers, patients and the broader population.
  • Build strong supportive relationships with internal business and portfolio partners for effective communications delivery; share communications best practices and handle tactical assignments with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced but complex environment.
  • Working with internal business partners to determine corporate communications priorities, manage communications specific workflows and deliver multiple communications initiatives effectively and on time.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in communications, based on best practice learnings, and provide expertise and advice across the organization to ensure products, information, guidance and resources are widely available, known and utilized.
  • Develop a strong understanding of government operations and health care policy in Ontario in order to potentially inform communications.
  • Other duties may be assigned within the scope of this position.

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations/marketing, IT, adult education, business/public admin or a related field with experience developing communication plans for corporate project and initiatives
  • Minimum 5+ years of communications or related work experience, with strong preference to those with experience focusing on technical/IT, healthcare or government related content.
  • Experience working in health care, IT, public sector experience preferred
  • Experience working to deliver on marketing, teaching, communications plans and strategies

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent understanding of communication principles, processes and stakeholder relations
  • A strong writer and editor, specifically in preparing engaging content for a wide variety of target audiences and communications vehicles
  • Extremely strong skills in communicating messages/storyline via MS tools (Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong demonstrated experience and creativity in creating infographics, technical roadmaps, visual summaries, evaluation/ benefits summaries, and logic models.
  • Ability to listen to highly technical or strategic content and translate into key messages, communications, strategies and critical decision points.
  • Ability to work flexibly to tight deadlines, short turn around time, under pressure, as part of a team
  • Ability to multi-task and have good organizational and time management skills
  • Strong storytelling experience and aligning strategies to the overall corporate narrative
  • Sound judgement, discretion and decision-making ability
  • Communication planning and project management skills with an ability to work well with diverse teams with competing priorities across a complex organization
  • High degree of collaboration and the ability to influence to achieve program/project objectives while protecting/enhancing the organizational brand
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability and experience to work across all levels
