EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Completed Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Public Relations or another relevant discipline, and/or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience at a Senior Management level.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in a not-for-profit, preferably within an Indigenous organization.
Responsibilities

Communications & Public Relations (60%):

  • Develops effective marketing and communications plans including strategy, goals, budget, and tactics to support the OFIFC’s Long-Range Strategic Plan (LRSP)
  • Sets brand standards to make sure all OFIFC and OPLC materials have consistent and positive messaging and branding
  • Develops processes to efficiently manage communications and community relations activities consistently across OFIFC.
  • Conducts quality control on all communications (including program communication, OPLC publications, and OFIFC communications to the public) for adherence to these standards, messaging, and branding.
  • Manages and reviews all forms of media and communication channels used to engage audiences, including press, speaking engagements, print materials, audio and video content, website, and social media for OPLC, OFIFC and OFIFC’s Programs.
  • Leverages existing media relationships and cultivates new contacts to increase the reach and publicity of OFIFC messaging.
  • Responds quickly and professionally to crises, challenging situations or breaking news impacting the urban indigenous community.
  • Provides support to the CEO in developing speeches and presentations.

Community Relations (20%):

  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and execution of OFIFC’s community relations strategy designed to raise awareness of and build support for OFIFC and urban indigenous issues.
  • Monitors travel and external engagements across the OFIFC and leverages opportunities to set up additional engagement with stakeholders.
  • Directs the development of community relationships with non-government stakeholders such as community organizations, service delivery partners, other not-for-profits, etc.

Team Management (20%):

  • Builds capacity and capability within the work group by coaching direct reports, delegating work effectively and holding staff and self accountable for outcomes;
  • Promotes a teamwork environment and culture of service excellence, which respects diversity, encourages all employees to work cooperatively and contribute to a healthy, rewarding, respectful and productive working environment.
