Description

ABOUT THE HER FOUNDATION

Join the Hyperemesis Gravidarum Education and Research (HER) Foundation, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support to families affected by hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), a severe pregnancy disease. We are committed to improving treatment and outcomes through groundbreaking research, education, advocacy, and strong community support. Our staff works remotely in a collaborative, supportive, and mission-driven environment where we make a meaningful impact on the lives of families affected by HG.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The HER Foundation is seeking a strategic and creative Communications and Digital Media Strategist with a proven track record in multi-platform social media management and community engagement. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated professional to strengthen our digital footprint, expand our reach, and serve as a vital educator to our community. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, detail-oriented planner with strong organizational skills who can creatively translate complex information into compelling, accessible content.
The role is best suited for a reliable communications professional who can deliver results independently and document progress through shared tools like Trello. It demands thoughtful interaction with our various audiences: HG patients and their caregivers, healthcare professionals and researchers, donors, staff, and leadership.
This remote role begins at approximately 20 hours per week with the potential to grow based on breadth of skills and performance. Starting pay is $24-28/hour and hours are flexible.
* See application process at the end. All qualifications are required to apply. *

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience managing social media for multiple platforms, with a personal portfolio demonstrating strategic content planning and execution, graphic design skills, newsletter creation, and fundraising.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and editing video content for social media, specifically reels.
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, conversational, and creative content for multiple audiences.
  • Experience customizing content for various audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience using project management tools like Trello to manage a comprehensive content calendar.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative mindset to work effectively with our clinical, research, and leadership teams.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, MS Office, CRM platforms, Canva, and Buffer (or similar scheduling tools).
  • Trauma-informed communication skills, empathy, and sensitivity to the emotional and socioeconomic diversity of our community.
  • A passion for improving maternal health and a deep commitment to the HER Foundation’s mission.

APPLICATION PROCESS

To apply, email your cover letter, resume and campaign materials described below to apply@hyperemesis.org.

  • Cover Letter and Resume (with dates): Describe how your skills and interests align with this position and our mission. Feel free to share a portfolio of work you did without collaborators.

To demonstrate your skills, we ask that you create a mini campaign using existing content. We are looking for a cohesive look and message in copy and graphics. This allows you to showcase your ability and stand out from other applicants. This must be done solely by you.

  • Strategic Content Plan: Provide 3+ specific ideas you would implement to improve our digital platforms, along with a high-level content calendar that shows your process for balancing educational content, awareness campaigns, fundraising, and community engagement for 1+ month(s).
  • Post 1 (Educational): Translate a clip of medical information from our website (hyperemesis.org >> About HG) into a post for pregnant women with a corresponding Canva graphic.
  • Post 2 (Community Engagement): Draft a post that allows our community members to share their experiences with a trauma-informed tone with a corresponding Canva graphic. Social media comments are a great resource.
  • Post 3 (Research/Mission-focused): Based on our research (hyperemesis.org/research), create a post that highlights a key finding and its importance with a corresponding Canva graphic.
  • Sample Reel or Short-Form Video: Create a 15-30 second video reel that would interest this community. You can use free stock footage or simple animation.
  • Sample Newsletter Content: Draft a quick newsletter template and include content for 1 section (2-3 brief paragraphs) that includes a fundraising pitch for our upcoming 25th anniversary.

Note: Only applicants with all of the above skills and all submission elements will be considered. We will reach out before the end of August if we would like to proceed with an interview.
