Company Description Members of Parliament are responsible to uphold the principles and practices of Canadian democracy. They sit in the House of Commons to serve as representatives of the people who have elected them to that office. Members consider and vote on legislation in the chamber, attend committee and caucus meetings, and perform a wide range of duties in their constituencies. They also represent Canada when travelling abroad on official business or when hosting foreign dignitaries. Job Description A Member of Parliament is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Communications Assistant position. About the role: As a Communications Assistant in a diverse and urban community, you provide a wide range of communications and project coordination support services. You will be responsible for handling all communications on behalf of the Member, including social media, newsletters and other communications to constituents. This role is a key operational strategist in advancing and facilitating the Member’s main objectives and priorities through outreach, communications, events planning and other strategic activities. In addition, you will work with other members of the team to provide excellent service to the Member’s constituents and to support the Member’s parliamentary work. Primary responsibilities: Create, manage, and optimize content for Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms to enhance engagement and visibility. Produce quarterly newsletters, localized mail-outs, and online campaigns aligned with Member priorities. Draft speeches for community events and represent the Member at meetings and gatherings. Monitor parliamentary activities, review and edit correspondence and documents for accuracy, style, and format. Salary: Commensurate with experiences, education and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and the public service pension plan Start Date: As soon as possible Qualifications Education: Minimum requirement of a bachelor degree from a recognized institution in political science or communications. Experiences: Experience in social media management, with advanced proficiency in social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and X. Knowledge of media relations management principles, with the ability to craft news content, multimedia communication and engaging social media posts. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Experience prioritizing and maintaining relationships with multiple clients by exhibiting strong attention to detail, adaptability, and analytical skills. Significant experience working in an office setting with autonomy and professionalism. Experience with the creation and editing of videos. Ability to establish and manage multiple priorities, meet strict deadlines, and work independently in a high stress environment. Assets: Demonstrated experience in website design and maintenance, with a high level of proficiency in WordPress. Communication skills in Hindu, Urdu and Punjabi.
