Description

The Alberta Medical Association is currently recruiting for a Communications Consultant to join our Accelerating Change Transformation Team (ACTT). This is a temporary position till March 31, 2026 and there may be a possibility for extension.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Communications Consultant plays a senior-level strategic role in planning and implementing communications for internal and external audiences. The consultant provides communications advice to staff in AMA branches, programs and external multi-stakeholder audiences.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of a college or university program in communications or public relations.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a corporate or not-for-profit communications environment.
  • Experience should reflect measured results in successively more responsible projects and positions and the ability to deal with sensitive issues proactively in urgent situations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to tailor complex technical information for various audiences.

Responsibilities
  • Works autonomously & in collaboration with the ACTT Leadership team while HR reporting to the Director, Member Engagement
  • Plays a senior-level strategic role in planning and implementing two-way communication for AMA-ACTT (boundary spanner)
  • Develops and executes strategic communications tactics to support ACTT priority deliverables
  • Provides strategic communication advice to in-house, initiative-driven teams and committees (expert prescriber role: acknowledged, informed, qualified to provide advice)
  • Provides strategic communication advice to external multi-stakeholder projects (upholds AMA interests)
  • Manages communications projects for ACTT
  • Handles calls/queries from team and physician members relating to ACTT matters; monitors and identifies opportunities and threats, notifies and/or provides advice to management accordingly
  • Environmental scanning in development of communications deliverables
