OVERVIEW

The Communication Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Manager of Communication, Outreach and Engagement in executing communication and marketing plans on behalf of BCWWA’s programs and services. This position assists with the development and implementation of a range of communications content across BCWWA’s internal and external channels. Examples include writing and editing website content, e-newsletters and print and digital marketing materials; supporting annual editorial planning for the quarterly Watermark magazine; creating and developing visual graphics and short videos for social media and marketing purposes.
This position is instrumental in supporting the marketing and communication deliverables for BCWWA’s education and training programs, annual conference and professional event schedule. This role also works closely with the Small Water Systems Community Network Coordinator to fulfill its marketing and communication needs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s or associate degree in communication, marketing, publishing, public relations or a related discipline.
  • Experience working in digital, online and social media environments and familiarity with content management, email marketing and other organizational communication technology.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Basic knowledge of marketing and communication principles, practices, methods, tactics and analytics.
  • Basic knowledge of marketing design principles. Is proficient with both online graphic design tools (i.e., Canva) and desktop publishing tools (i.e., Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc.).

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • A strong writer with fluent written and oral skills in English. Writes compelling copy and make accurate edits.
  • Possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills. Interacts in a professional manner and shares ideas or concerns with others clearly and effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to manage time, priorities and resources to achieve goals.
  • Be a demonstrated self-starter and critical thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
  • Assists the Communications Manager in implementing tactical communication and marketing plans. Develop digital campaigns, social media, marketing collateral and key messages that support BCWWA’s strategic plan.
  • Contributes, designs and maintains BCWWA’s online presence while ensuring brand consistency and recommends courses of action to optimize the user experience for members and visitors and increase online engagement. Ability to apply online metrics and tools and prepare analyses on the effectiveness of online campaigns.
  • Responsible for implementing an editorial calendar for all BCWWA social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, Twitter/X), monitors and engages with the BCWWA online community and work collaboratively with team members to advise, research, plan and publish professional and engaging social media content.
  • Creates and manages graphic design assets in alignment with BCWWA brand guidelines. The ability to create and format simple but well-designed graphic design materials, including, but not limited to, social media graphics, website and e-newsletter banners, event signage and branded marketing collateral.
  • Collects, drafts and edits content to support monthly membership, training and event e-newsletters.
  • Other duties related to the achievement of BCWWA’s goals and strategies.
