We are seeking a passionate and skilled Communications Coordinator to join the City of Edmonton’s Urban Planning and Economy communications, engagement and external relations team as we contribute to making Edmonton a great city.
Urban Planning and Economy is a forward-looking department that plans, promotes and advocates change that moves this city towards the Edmonton envisioned by the citizens we serve. The department focuses on the development and economic needs of today and the future.
You will collaborate with a team of communications, engagement and external relations professionals to implement communications plans by creating compelling content that encourages Edmontonians to get involved in building their city, and that tells the story of how the City is planning for the future. This is an exciting opportunity to use your communications expertise to help shape and share the City’s story.

SKILLS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS:

  • Experience in a municipal government or public sector environment
  • Strong project management skills
  • Experience with digital marketing tools and platforms
  • A proven ability to deliver quality marketing communication products and advice on time
  • Experience in delivering marketing communications materials
  • Working knowledge of communications, marketing, advertising, media, social media and design coordination, event planning and print production
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff at all levels and external stakeholders and partners
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • An ability to gather technical information from clients to translate into clear, concise and easy to understand marketing/communications content

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a 2 year college, accredited post secondary institute or technical institute program with coursework related to marketing, journalism, communications or public relations
  • Minimum 2 years experiences in a public relations, public affairs or public information positio
Responsibilities
  • Spearhead the implementation of integrated marketing/communications plans, craft collateral and orchestrate show-stopping campaigns
  • Produce captivating videos and execute unforgettable media events that leave a lasting impact
  • Play a role in creating messaging for internal/external communications, ensuring our voice is heard loud and clear
  • Dive deep into research, providing vital support for marketing, communications and engagement planning and work collaboratively with suppliers and stakeholders
  • Unleash your inner wordsmith, drafting compelling copy for news releases, public service announcements, backgrounder documents, and eye-catching content
  • Craft engaging newsletters, persuasive advertising copy, dynamic web and digital content, impactful key messages and powerful speaking notes
  • Work with project teams to support public engagement activities, including events, by drafting captivating content that explains complex ideas in everyday words that people can easily understand
  • Bolster our web and social media presence, developing engaging and compelling content for digital/online platforms, including social media
