Description Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio (LASCO)’s mission is to provide civil legal aid and advocacy to overcome unfairness and injustice, reduce poverty, and increase opportunity. LASCO has a long-standing history of being committed to searching out the patterns, causes of, and solutions to the repetitive and fundamental legal problems facing low-income Ohioans and pursuing the legal recourse needed to address those problems. Since 1966, our organizations have helped thousands of Ohio’s poor obtain and keep housing, secure public benefits, worked with families to gain and maintain economic stability, and helped domestic violence survivors to live free of fear and abuse and to obtain the resources needed to sustain themselves and their children. LASCO is actively seeking a professional, reliable and engaging Communications Coordinator to join our team. This role requires exceptional writing skills, social media and other content development, and a strong familiarity and passion for our client community and community partners. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for helping to increase awareness of our organization and all our activities through effective, creative and professional marketing, communications, and public relations. In this multifaceted role, you will support and help execute the communications strategies and marketing plan for LASCO and the Ohio Poverty Law Center. This includes planning, editing, preparing, and finalizing communication materials, including but not limited to social media posts, web content and newsletters, as well as client brochures, internal and external reports and fundraising documents. You Will: Coordinate and manage website and social media content, collaborating with vendors and internal teams to maintain a dynamic and engaging digital presence. Develop and implement social media strategies in partnership with leadership and internal teams to expand community reach and engagement. Write and coordinate clear, compelling communications for donors, staff, and the broader community. Create and manage high-quality marketing and development materials, including annual reports, brochures, fact sheets, and fundraising appeals. Plan, write, design, and send monthly newsletters to supporters and partners. Identify and capture in print and video, impactful client stories by coordinating and conducting interviews for use in communications, fundraising, and media outreach. Oversee the design and production of communication assets, including announcements, flyers, event signage, invitations, and educational materials. Manage visual storytelling efforts, including maintaining the organization’s photo library and coordinating photography and video production. Support public relations and media outreach by building relationships with reporters, maintaining press lists, pitching stories and op-eds, and coordinating press releases. Supervise communications volunteers and interns while supporting staff training for effective internal and external communications. Partner with development staff to advance fundraising and donor engagement, maintain consistent organizational branding, and evaluate the impact of communications efforts. Requirements You Have: Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or related field. Prior experience in non-profit communications and/or fundraising strongly preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to other staff, volunteers, clients and the public. Self-motivated and committed to workplace participation and diversity, with the ability to work as a team member. Ability to juggle many projects and meet deadlines in a high-energy environment. Interest in legal aid work to improve the lives of people living in poverty and increase access to justice. Demonstrated ability to write strategic communications pieces including press releases, newsletters, and website content. Experience with WordPress content management platform preferred. Proficient in email marketing tools and social media. Knowledge of image editing software. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Communications Director and requires some travel throughout the service area. The position will be based in the Columbus office. Salary begins at $52,000 & up and is dependent upon level of experience. LASCO offers an excellent comprehensive benefits package, currently including an employer funded HRA (up to $12,000), employer-paid employee dental and vision insurance, a language skills differential ($2,500-$3,500 annually), paid vacation, sick and holiday time, and ongoing training and development opportunities.
