Job Description: Reporting to the Executive Director, Strategic & Corporate Services, the Communications Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Communications department. This position develops and implements long- and short-term communications strategies and leads the Communications team in the execution of the strategy to meet the SMAs communication and marketing needs. This position is based on-site in Saskatoon, SK. Key responsibilities include: Leadership and Supervision 1. Manage the day-to-day operations and projects of the Communications department ensuring its efficient and effective operation. 2. Lead, motivate, and develop Communications team members for high performance and provide day-to-day direction to the Communications team. Strategic Planning & Stakeholder Engagement 3. Lead and oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of long- and short-term communications strategies in consultation with internal and external stakeholders. 4. Identify and analyze current and emerging issues relevant to the SMA and recommend appropriate communications strategies. 5. Conduct performance analysis on existing strategies, procedures and policies, identifying areas for improvement and developing actionable and sustainable solutions where needed, leading cross functional projects from idea to conception to implementation. 6. Act as a senior advisor to internal customers/departments to proactively assess risk, map stakeholders, differentiate communication approaches to various segments, and lead the execution of the strategies. 7. Ensure the effective collaboration of the Communications team with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver communications initiatives. 8. Provide input in the Communications department budget planning process and manage the annual Communications department budget. Content Creation & Management 9. Oversee the development and updates to the SMA’s corporate brand and visual guidelines. 10. Oversee the creation and dissemination of communication materials (print and digital), ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to the SMA’s corporate brand and visual guidelines. 11. Oversee the development and maintenance of the SMA’s online and digital presence, including the SMA website and social media platforms. Continuous Learning 12. Stay current on industry trends, best practices and emerging communication technologies to continually improve the effectiveness of the SMA’s communication efforts. Media & Public Relations Management 13. Serve as the primary point of contact for media relations, building and maintaining positive relationships with media outlets. 14. Lead and oversee the initiation of media coverage and responses to media requests. 15. Monitor and manage the SMAs public image, effectively handling crisis communications in a timely manner. Other 16. Foster strong and collaborative working relationships with stakeholders including senior leaders, and other internal and external partners in the interest of delivery or client-centered service. 17. Fulfill additional work-related duties assigned by the Executive Director, Strategic & Corporate Services. Travel Required: Yes Human Resources Exemption: No Education An undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related discipline. An equivalent level of education and experience may be considered. A minimum of ten years of experience in communications with a demonstrated progression in level of responsibility. A minimum of five years’ experience in managing/leading teams. Experience in a health-care organization is an asset.
