Leads the development and execution of messaging that advances our mission, inspires community support and strengthens relationships with donors and partners. This role will manage strategic communications, brand identity, fundraising messaging, advocacy initiatives, and internal communications.

Responsibilities
  • Implement an organization-wide communications strategy that reinforces our mission, values, and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure all messaging reflects the voices, experiences, and needs of the communities we serve and that all content is accessible, culturally appropriate, and aligned with brand and strategic goals.
  • Oversee brand identity to ensure a unified and professional presence across all channels.
  • Develop and maintain a suite of branded templates (i.e.: letterhead, PowerPoint, etc.) that are accessible and available to staff.
  • Partner with the Philanthropy team to craft persuasive donor cases for support, stewardship communications, and impact reports.
  • Support fundraising campaigns with compelling narratives, visuals, and social media content that inspire giving.
  • Develop donor recognition communications to strengthen long-term relationships.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Public Affairs, design and implement time-sensitive advocacy campaigns that respond to emerging policy issues or community needs.
  • Monitor and identify trends for discussion internally.
  • Prepare talking points, media releases, op-eds, and social media campaigns that mobilize community support.
  • Manage content for the website (in collaboration with IT), social media channels, newsletters, and other digital platforms.
  • Use human-centered storytelling to highlight program outcomes, client experiences, and organizational impact.
  • Lead development of multimedia content (videos, infographics, photography) for campaigns, advocacy and community outreach.
  • Liaise directly with contractors to provide creative direction, manage production timelines, and ensure alignment with brand standards.
  • Plan and execute promotional strategies for major events, initiatives, and advocacy campaigns.
  • Work with program teams to determine the best outreach and marketing approach to reach target audiences effectively.
  • Establish and execute internal communication processes that align staff with the organization’s mission, vision, and values, and that serve as a tool for strengthening our organizational culture.
  • Provide training and resources for staff on basic communication and design tools to ensure consistency in branding and alignment with the communication strategy.
  • Represents the YWCA Hamilton and always maintains outstanding public relations skills and a professional image in the community.
  • Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships.
  • Maintains high level of confidentiality when working with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Stays current on emerging trends, tools, leading practices and legislation.
  • Manages and monitors budget.
  • Directly manages up to 2 employees including recruiting, training and evaluating performance.
  • Demonstrates and models strong leadership behaviors as a member of the YWCA leadership team.
  • Fosters a safe and healthy work environment; ensures employees comply with health, safety standards that meet or exceed legislated requirements.
  • Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values.
  • Participate and provide mandatory organizational and departmental trainings and meetings.
