Responsibilities

The Aboriginal Languages Trust (ALT) is looking for a passionate and culturally connected Aboriginal professional to join our team as a Communications & Marketing Officer. In this role, you will support the delivery of communication and marketing activities that promote the work of the Trust and raise awareness of Aboriginal language revitalisation efforts across NSW. You will assist in developing content for digital platforms, social media, newsletters, and printed materials, helping to ensure all communication is culturally appropriate and community focused.
You will work closely with ALT staff, Aboriginal communities, and stakeholders to share stories, events, and program updates in ways that reflect the values of the Trust and strengthen engagement with the public. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys storytelling, working collaboratively, and contributing to meaningful cultural outcomes.

We’re Looking For

  • Strong design and visual communications skills: Advanced visual communication skills spanning graphic design for web and print and digital, basic video editing and basic photography skills, with expertise in Canva (at a minimum), experience with photography and Adobe Creative Suite highly desirable. Must have relevant qualification or demonstrable experience and examples of graphic design work previously delivered.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills: Advanced writing, editing and content development skills with the ability to craft clear, persuasive, and targeted messaging tailored to different audiences and channels. Ability to tailor content for culturally diverse audiences and Aboriginal communities.
  • Experience in community engagement: Particularly in working respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal communities, ensuring cultural appropriateness in all communication activities which includes engaging with stakeholders to gather research and information, co-develop communications and respectfully share community stories.
  • Project management: Experience in planning and delivering timely marketing and communication campaigns, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and responsiveness to emerging issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to interpret complex or sensitive information, identify communication risks and opportunities, and develop clear, effective solutions.
