A Snapshot of your day
As a Communications Network Engineer, you will design and implement communication networks for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) control systems, using your knowledge of Ethernet protocols and network topologies. You will modernize substation architectures by replacing conventional wiring with advanced communication networks to improve data accuracy, reliability, and cost efficiency. Collaboration with project management and engineering teams is essential to integrate innovative communication solutions into HVDC and HVAC systems.
You will also configure and manage network devices like switches, routers, and firewalls, ensuring compliance with IT security standards while conducting assessments and implementing security measures. Regular audits and penetration tests will help safeguard communication systems. Additionally, you will support the AC control and protection team in delivering HVAC wind farm grid connection solutions in the UK and internationally.
Reporting to the Head of SCADA, Communications & Cyber Engineering, you will provide engineering work packages aligned with project objectives, with training on IEC61850 offered to aid your transition into the energy sector.
