Located on the stunning west coast of Vancouver Island, the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre (BMSC) is a marine station that supports ocean access and is vibrant hub for coastal research, education, and community engagement. POSITION OVERVIEW

BMSC is seeking a Communications and Social Media Coordinator to lead the development and execution of our internal and external communication strategies and social media presence. Reporting to the Executive Director this role is instrumental in shaping BMSC’s public (including social media) presence, engaging stakeholders, and ensuring consistent messaging across departments.
This position is ideal for a strategic communicator with a creative mindset and a passion for storytelling. The successful candidate will collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders to highlight the impact of BMSC’s education, research, and community initiatives.

EDUCATION

· Diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

· 2-4 years of experience in a communications, social media, or public engagement role.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Proven experience managing social media platforms and creating original content.
· Strong understanding of analytics and ability to interpret and report on engagement metrics.
· Proficiency in Office 365 and digital media tools (e.g., Canva, Hootsuite, video editing software).
· Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
· Experience working in a science, education, nonprofit, or semi-remote coastal/marine setting is an asset.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

· Valid driver’s license.
· Satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
· Ability to move around campus on uneven surfaces.
· Ability to work evenings and weekends as operational needs dictate.
